It's Protect America Month at the Heritage Foundation. Yes, it came early this year (last year it was June and July). You may not have heard of it--it's only the second year and, no, it's not coordinated with Liz Cheney's Keep America Safe.
The kick-off event for Protect America month was a talk by Rep. Eric Cantor on national security, which would explain the question from the audience member on what it would take to consider President Obama a "domestic enemy."Brought to you by the Heritage Foundation's Protect America Initiative, Protect America Month's purpose is to make sure that the Obama administration’s intentions "to stop buying next-generation equipment," "proposed defense spending cuts to pay for domestic initiatives," and "cuts to military modernization in the 2011 defense budget" never happen.
And with these specific objectives:
1. To protect America from missile attack by deploying a comprehensive missile defense system—one that protects Americans and our western allies from nuclear annihilation.
2. To ensure that America has the best military in the world, with the training and equipment necessary to keep America safe, free and prosperous. The armed forces of the United States must have the means to conduct current operations, maintain trained and ready troops, and prepare for the national security challenges of the 21st century.
3. To keep America strong by protecting the homeland and securing our borders. America will become as free and open as it was on September 10, 2001, but with secure borders and the confidence that no transnational terrorists can consider America an easy target.
Protect America Month will end with an address by former Attorney General John Ashcroft.
